The UAE urged Qatar to end hate speech on its national media as it threatens the security of all countries in the region. The statement was made by the UAE before the UN Human Rights Council. The UAE raised Qatar's role in funding and supporting terrorism as a state policy.
The UAE's representative to the Council, Amira Al Amiri, urged Doha to give due attention to the 92 recommendations of the Council with regard to the dissemination of false information by Qatar on state media and social media channels.
"Qatar has acted illegally by harbouring terror groups, and sustaining their activities," Amira said. "It must act now or be swallowed by its own folly," she added. Qatar must take stock and choose its friends and end covert activities against its neighbours.
She expressed hope that Qatar would cease financing terrorism and instead meet the needs of its citizens. She said Doha's crisis with other Gulf states was of its own making and it should reconsider its decisions.
The UN Rights Council called on Qatar to review its activities and legislation related to terrorism. Such activities put regional security in peril, the UN body said.
