His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was re-assured on the condition of the students who were injured today following a traffic accident in Mussafah.
Shaikh Mohammed wished the students speedy recovery to return to their schools.
Earlier, a team from the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court visited the students who are undergoing treatment in Al Mafraq Hospital.
As many as 47 people, mostly students, sustained serious and minor injuries after the two school buses they were in collided with a public bus on the Arabian Gulf road in Abu Dhabi on Thursday morning.
Some passengers of the public bus also suffered several injuries because of the collision which occurred after the arterial Musaffah Bridge, according to a senior police officer. Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhahiri, director general of the central operations room of the Abu Dhabi Police, said they dispatched traffic patrols, rescue teams, ambulances, as well as the mobile hospital and paramedics to the site immediately when alerted of the mishap.
"The bus drivers tried hard to avoid the collision but they could not because of ignoring safety space, speeding, and driving inattentively, as per the initial enactment of the accident."
The safety of students is top priority, especially when they are commuting to and from their schools, Shaikh Mohammed said.
"Everyone is responsible when it comes to complying with traffic rules and taking necessary precautions to avoid endangering lives of road users and to avoid everything that may pose a risk to our children's lives," he added.
