Shaikh Mohammed hails DM projects

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was briefed on a number of development schemes and projects implemented by the Dubai Municipality in different parts of the emirate.

Shaikh Mohammed visited the municipality on Wednesday, accompanied by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; and a number of officials.

Khaleej TimesHussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Dubai Municipality, in a presentation explained about Al Mamzar Beach Development Project, one of the investment projects being carried out by the municipality, including the construction of shopping centres and recreational facilities.

Shaikh Mohammed expressed satisfaction over the projects being executed by the municipality aimed at the well-being and welfare of the citizens and giving a boost to the position of the UAE on economic, tourism and cultural map both at the regional and international levels.

He underlined that the development and service projects in various sectors aim at providing the citizens with a comfortable life as well as job opportunities. They also help improving the stature of the country; divert the energy of the people to serve the development and economic, educational and scientific progress as well as achieving prosperity to the UAE society.

The Al Mamzar Beach development project is characterized by open-lush greeneries, state-of-the art residential buildings, a public park spreading over an area of 18 hectares and 900-metre-long footpath, among other necessary services. Other projects Shaikh Mohammed was briefed about includes the Creek Front, which consists of three trade markets, located near the dock. The project is designed to give a face-lift to Dubai’s waterfront on the direction of the creek, with building iconic towers linked by a pedestrian bridge. The overhead bridge will give an opportunity to visitors to enjoy walking along the dhow dock, which stands as a landmark of Dubai’s historic features. The 120,000-square metre project consists of underground car parks that can accommodate 1000 motor vehicles.

Shaikh Mohammed also viewed the blueprints of the new sites for constructing houses for citizens in Al Barsha and Al Aweer. He also saw the plan of the bungalows project on Jebel Ali Beach, which includes construction of organised waterfronts for the beachgoers as well as 10 bungalows where solar cells will be used to generate energy. The Dubai Municipality also plans renovation of old markets in Dubai, which reflect the national and cultural identity of the UAE and preserve the local heritage.

Shaikh Mohammed was also briefed about Al Dokhoon Market project, which consists of a traditional festival yard, Friday Market, a market of incenses, Arabian perfumes, local and Arab fashions, pottery, travel tools, jewellery, currencies, ancient jewellery and other local handicrafts as well as local dishes.

Shaikh Mohammed signed the heritage fingerprints, which is an initiative by the heritage department aiming at establishing the concept of national identity, boosting the Arab and Islamic customs, concepts and values of the UAE people.

Efforts of the Dubai Municipality in the field of Emiratisation were demonstrated to Shaikh Mohammed, who expressed satisfaction over the projects.
