Sharjah extends voter registration until December 19

Sharjah - Ali Al Tunaiji, head of poll committee in Al Dhaid area, said that the committee is making great efforts to facilitate the registration process for the citizens.

Following request from citizens from various parts of Sharjah, the Sharjah government extended the voter registration for the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) election from until December 19.
A top Sharjah government official said that the extension will ensure people's participation in the decision-making process. "It is important for voters to register themselves first in order to cast their vote and elect their candidates," he said.
The registration process for the SCC elections formally kicked off on December 6 at the Sharjah Municipality and other dedicated centres in Sharjah and in centres across the emirate, including in Dhaid, Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, Hamriya, Maliha, Madam and Al Bataeh.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, a top official at the Sharjah government said that citizens from various parts of the emirate requested the extension so that they could use the long weekend for the registration.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) visited the Sharjah Municipality on Monday to register himself for the SCC polls, he urged voters to take part in the electoral and political process in order to have a say in the decision-making and development agenda of the emirate.
Shaikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi said that by introducing the voter registration process, a first in the region, which helps the electoral authorities monitor and conduct polls smoothly in accordance with the set norms, while ensuring voters' right to choose right representatives in a transparent manner, Sharjah has taken a bold step towards empowering its people and ensuring their participation in the decision-making process.
The SCC Electoral College has been divided into nine constituencies to ensure all citizens are able to register and vote for their respective candidates. Elections to the Consultative Council have been held since 2006, and the process has undergone constant improvement and fine-tuning all these years to ensure people's empowerment and participation in the political process.
Registration centres across the emirate have remained open during weekdays and weekends and also both in the morning and evening to ensure no one is left out. Voters can also register for their immediate family members and relatives.
