His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, on Sunday morning offered condolences to the family of 8-year-old Obaida Ibrahim Al Aqrabawi at a mourning tent in industrial area number 8.
The Jordanian boy was found dead last week under a tree on Academic City Road in Al Warqaa, Dubai. He had been strangled and there were signs of sexual assault.
Dr Shaikh Sultan expressed his heartfelt sorrow over the loss of the boy. He said he stood by the child's family as they mourned the loss of their little one.
The child's family praised Dr Shaikh Sultan's visit and expressed their sincere gratitude to him for offering his condolences.
With tears in his eyes, the boy's father told Khaleej Times that he went to receive his son's death certificate on Sunday. "I was waiting to receive reports about his success in school and not his death certificate," he said.
The boy went missing from his family home in Sharjah Industrial Area on May 20. The suspect, a 48-year-old Jordanian, reportedly lured the boy into riding with him, saying he would buy a scooter for him. He then took the boy to Al Mamzar area in a car he borrowed from his building watchman. He parked the car and started drinking alcohol. He asked the boy to undress, but the boy resisted and told the man he would tell his father.
The suspect then strangled the boy to death and continued consuming alcohol till 5am the next day. He then drove to Academic City and dumped the body.
