More efforts are underway to make Dubai friendly for cyclists.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, has directed to implement international best practices to improve the emirate's infrastructure to suit bicycle riders.
Taking to Twitter, he said that authorities concerned have been directed to update regulations to make Dubai a cycle-friendly city. "The directives, in line with the goals of Dubai Plan 2021, aim to make the emirate a safer place for working and living. Other goals include bringing down death rates related to traffic accidents and reducing carbon dioxide emissions as per Emirates Strategy for Energy 2050," Sheikh Hamdan tweeted.
The Roads and Transport Authority in the emirate had earlier unveiled its mission of expanding Dubai's cycling lanes to 850km by 2030.
We are transforming Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city, developing laws and a legislative system, while applying world-class best practices, to create an infrastructure that accommodates this eco-friendly and healthy mode of transport.

This directive is in line with the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to bolster Dubai's position as the safest and preferred place to live and work, while reducing fatalities in road traffic accidents and cutting carbon emissions, as part of the ambitious UAE Energy Strategy 2050.
