A video highlighting the important achievements of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was launched on Monday. ‘The Journey’, a seven-minute video, compiled by the Government of Dubai Media Office was launched through the official website of Shaikh Mohammed — www.sheikhmohammed.ae — and on YouTube (www.youtube.com/user/HHSMohammedBinRashid).

The timeline showcases Dubai and the UAE and positioned them at par with the world’s most advanced nations. It highlights record-breaking feats of the emirate and the nation that is now a beacon of development in the region and the world at large.

“Using 3D graphics, ‘The Journey’ has been created in the form of an electronic map which navigates users to sites that were the scene of the most important achievements associated with His Highness’ name. The 3-D technology has been combined with a rare collection of photographs, in addition to clips related to the key events covered in this journey, which abounds with successes and achievements,” said Mona Al Marri, Director-General of the Government of Dubai Media Office.

The video clips shed light on the phenomenal growth of Dubai under Shaikh Mohammed’s guidance, supervision and follow-up in all fields — be it economic, cultural or sports or areas of humanitarian work, said Mona Al Marri.

Shaikh Mohammed began his official career as the Chief of the Dubai Police and Public Security in 1969, and rose to the post of the Defence Minister of the UAE in 1973. He became the Crown Prince of Dubai in 1995, before taking over as Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in 2006.

Dubai has made rapid strides since the opening Port Rashid in 1972, the establishment of Jaddaf Dubai in 1977, construction of Dubai World Trade Centre in 1978, opening of Jebel Ali Port in 1979, launch of Emirates airline in 1985, and the launch of the Dubai Shopping Festival in 1996.

Shaikh Mohammed’s vision of a knowledge-based economy gets special mention with myriad projects that have put the country in the spotlight.

The Dubai Quality Award (1994), Dubai Government Excellence Award (1997), the Dubai Internet City (1999), the opening of Burj Al Arab Hotel (1999), as well as the launch of Dubai Media City (2000), and the Arab Media Forum (2001) find pride of place.

He also began the e-Government project, established Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises and Dubai Healthcare City (2002).

Then there’s the Dubai International Financial Centre, the opening of Palm Jumeirah (2008) and Dubai Metro (2009). The crowning glory came in the form of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, which was opened in 2010. Smart government initiatives for a better connected city and world, and the winning of the bid to host World Expo 2020 in 2013 look certain to take Dubai and the country to new heights.
