Those targeting UAE opposed to results of Libyan elections: Gargash

UAE Minister says attempts to involve the UAE in Libya’s domestic affairs are meant to dodge facing the results of the parliamentary election.

Speculation is rife in the Arab world to ascertain the backers of opposing fractions, with some news reports claiming that Qatar financially backs the ISIS. Some reports even blamed the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia for stepping into Libya’s domestic affairs.

The attempts to involve the UAE in Libya’s domestic affairs are meant to dodge facing the results of the parliamentary election and its legitimacy, said Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, on his Twitter page. These attempts disregard the wishes of the large majority of the Libyan people, who hoped for stability and security to prevail in their country, he said.

Dr Gargash said it will soon become clear that the sections targeting the UAE are the same ones opposed to the results of the Libyan election.

Gargash made it clear that involving the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia in Libya’s domestic affairs is made by the “same group” which wants to achieve its political goals under the veil of religion.

“The people have spotted their failure and recognised their lies,” he said. “Disregarding the results of the Libyan parliamentary election is nothing but an indication of the isolation of the group which is seeking a way out of their segregation and justify their mismanagement.”

Dr Gargash said that using the term “counter-revolution” ignores the aspirations of the “millions of Egyptians” who helped overthrow the ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Mursi. It also disregards the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood “hijacked” the January 25 revolution.

Revolution, Dr Gargash said, is not the one brought about by the Muslim Brotherhood and the others who share their view. Similarly, the Arab Spring is not just reserved for the Muslim Brotherhood groups.

“Let’s recall the days when the Muslim Brotherhood forgot about the hopes and expectations of the Egyptian people during the reign of former deposed president Mursi until the Egyptian people took to the streets in millions and forced Mursi out of power with the Muslim brotherhood’s political arm: Justice and Freedom party.

“Today, we can see the counter revolution in Libya after the extremist currents flagrantly lost the parliamentary elections, and since their seven per cent does not form a majority, Islamists in Libya resorted to violence and spread chaos across the country,” Dr Gargash said.

“As the days progress, we are fully convinced that extremist groups in Libya have not embraced democracy and what is going on in Libya right now proves that.

“Recent events prove that the beliefs embraced by the Muslim Brotherhood lean towards extremism,” he added.
