Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, has refrained from replying to the fabricated news aired by Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV Channel on meeting with his Israeli counterpart.
In his official account on Twitter, he said “I had opted between answering and not answering.”
“I was content not to reply seeking reward from Allah and mitigate the sins in these days.”
Meanwhile, Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, demanded an apology from Al Jazeera for fabricating news about the meeting of Shaikh Abdullah and Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman.
“Fabrication of Lieberman meeting news requires an apology,” he tweeted and asked “Are those in charge of Al Jazeera able to professionally apologise?
He said Al Jazeera’s professionalism has fallen apart as either it had picked and transmitted a false news from an Israeli TV channel, or it had shown a fabricated news from Muslim Brotherhood websites.
In atweet earlier, he said the weak arguments would not compensate the fabricated news.
“The point is not fabrication of the news by Al Jazeera, but it is lying and falsification which target the UAE citizens who work dedicatedly in extending humanitarian relief in Gaza,” he stressed.
The last two days saw an onslaught launched by the Muslim Brotherhood and some in Qatar, that support the group to tarnish the UAE’s image by taking advantage of the war in Gaza strip. A number of Muslim Brotherhood members and those supporting them, have sinceSaturday, posted news on Twitter that a UAE Red Crescent Authority team had travelled to Gaza Strip to set up a field hospital in support of the Palestinian people. They alleged the team is carrying out a spy and intelligence mission. The news ended up with the picture of a member of the Red Crescent Authority in the strip claiming that he is a high-ranking officer and carrying out a secret mission. To confirm their claims they had shown a photograph in military uniform.
It later appeared that the person in the picture in Gaza is Ali bin Shmail Al Kaabi, head of the local aid section, UAE Red Crescent Authority’s Abu Dhabi branch, who is taking part in the overseas relief operations. The officer in the picture in military uniform was a former undersecretary of the UAE ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General (Retired) Obaid Mohammed Abdullah Al Kaabi.
The 35-year-old Ali bin Shmail Al Kaabi told an online news portal that the claims that went viral connecting his photo with the pictures of the former undersecretary of the defence ministry was an evidence to the ethical downfall of those who fabricated and circulated the news.
“If our mission was suspicious and our identities were unknown, we would not have been allowed by the officials in Gaza to walk among the people, and we couldn’t have been welcomed by the officials and the people,” he said.
“We were accorded a warm welcome by the people, and we were moving with them, and the picture shows how delightful the people were when we arrived to share their sorrow,” he added.
