Minister of State Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber on Thursday paid an inspection visit to the 6th of October City in Egypt where the UAE is building 13,000 housing units to accommodate 80,000 people as part of its support to the brotherly country.
Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Egypt, was also with him.
The project is being executed by the Egyptian Army Corps of Engineering.
After visiting the site, Al Jaber said, “Under the directives of the wise leadership, the UAE is implementing a package of projects aimed at delivering direct, fast and positive impact on the Egyptian people within the context of the long-standing bilateral ties which are based on mutual transparency, affection and respect. As an established policy, the UAE is concentrating on practical measures and acts and just two days ago, the Shaikh Zayed Hospital and Nasser facility, which were executed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, were opened as part of efforts to improve educational and healthcare services. Today, we are witnessing the commencement of works of the UAE-funded housing project. Initiatives for supporting Egypt will continue to ensure stability and calm for fraternal Egyptian people.”
“As usual, we are following the progress of work on the ground as we always focus on fast-track implementation with high efficiency to deliver the aspired results that benefit the Egyptian community.”
Currently, six contractors, employing nearly 10,000 workers, are working on the project, which will provide job opportunities to more than 120 families.
The massive housing development of 542 buildings will be carried out in five phases and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
The development will feature two centralised services zones which contain mosques, schools, community halls, medical centres, nursery, shopping centres, parking lots, sports facilities, water and electricity grids, sewerage and road networks.
