548 jobless locals register with Tanmia

DUBAI - A total number of 548 jobless UAE nationals registered with the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) last month, out of which 47 per cent were graduates of high school.

According to a report on the performance of Tanmia's Employment and Skill Development Centre, the educational levels of the 548 job seekers ranged from below primary to bachelor degrees and non of them was holder of masters of PhD.

The job seekers who are graduates of high school topped the list of the unemployed with 268, followed by 91 holders of bachelor degrees, three-year diplomas 53, higher diploma 37, preparatory 28, primary classes 13 and below primary 11.


The majority of the job seekers were from Abu Dhabi, which registered a total of 158 representing 29 per cent, followed by Dubai 151 job seekers, Sharjah 133, Ajman 54 and the least number was from Fujairah with 52 jobless nationals.

The report says that a total of 130 job seekers were employed by the authority in September including 77 in the banking sector, 19 in local government departments, five in federal government departments, eight in semi-government establishments, four in oil and gas companies, seven in trade and the least number in insurance with only one. The centre also monitors the vacancies in various sections. In September, it monitored a total of 316 vacancies that were registered by sector including 96 vacancies in local government departments, 59 vacancies in banking, 49 in federal departments, 24 in the trade sector, 21 in semi-government, three in oil an gas and 61 in other sectors.
