The workers, employed by Perfect Group of Companies, were among the 1,000-strong workforce agitating against what they termed as foul practices by the company.

"The workers' strike has been called off after the company paid them their pending salaries. However, some workers are still not satisfied with the compromise offers given by the company. They approached us to help them cancel their employment visas," said B.S. Mubarak, Labour Consul, Indian consulate, Dubai.

He disclosed that the consulate contacted the company management and requested them to take a decision in this regard.

"The company officials responded positively to our request. They visited the consulate office and assured us that they would cancel the visas of workers who opted to go back home," he added.

He said the management had agreed to cancel the visas of a few people immediately while those of the rest would be done at a later stage.

When contacted by Khaleej Times, Karin, owner of the company, said that the company was ready to cancel the visas. "Actually the strike was the handiwork of a few who had already resigned to safeguard their personal interests," he said, adding that the workers will have to specify why they staged the strike in their resignation letter.

He claimed that only 30 workers had approached the company for the cancellation of their permits.

"Actually there was no problem for the workers. We hold only two-month salary of the workers, which is in line with the UAE labour regulations," he said.
