AI to celebrate Onam

DUBAI — Air India will celebrate Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, on all its flights between Dubai and Trivandrum/Calicut from September 14 to 16, it was announced at an event organised recently.

The popular Kerala festival, being celebrated by the airline for several years on board its flights, has been evoking good response amongst passengers. Those travelling on Air India flights from Dubai during the period will get the opportunity to savour delicacies such as Ada Pradhaman, Pal Payasam, Kalan, Avial Kozhierchi Masala, Erussery, Inji Curry and Ethakkai Upperi, even while they are away from home. Sakaraivarty, a jaggery flavoured sweet and Vazhakka Upperi, banana chips — both Kerala specialities, will be served along with the meals.

Floral decoration, and traditional dance performance were followed by a special Onam lunch at the celebrations. The event was attended by Jaishree Ramachandran, Air India Marketing Manager (Dubai and Northern Emirates), Duncan Davis, General Manager, Airport Catering Services, and Faysal Moufarrej, Deputy General Manager, Airport Catering Services of Emirates flight catering company.

Meanwhile, the United Malayalee Association will also celebrate Onam on September 16 at Al Nasr Leisure Land. C.R.G. Nair, President of Dubai Priyadarshini and General Convener of UMA for Onam celebrations said that all necessary arrangements had been made for the celebrations which will start at 9am with a floral decoration competition followed by Ona Sadyha with 23 food items will be served on a banana leaf.
