The move comes as part of the ongoing road development projects being carried out by the Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning (ADMP), Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of ADMP, told Khaleej Times.
Located near the Sharjah border, Rona roundabout is one of Ajman’s popular landmarks.
Al Nuaimi said, “The project will be executed as soon as the Sharjah Government gives its permission.”
The official added that 90 per cent of Ajman’s roads had been ‘re-planned’ as per the international standards. The roads will be expanded, with three lanes to be added to improve the flow of traffic in the emirate. All roundabouts in Ajman will be replaced with intersections and advanced traffic signal lights, he said.
The two bridges being constructed at Gulfa and Al Miroor roundabouts have been completed and will soon be opened for traffic, Al Nuaimi revealed.
“The main objective of the expansion plan is to minimise traffic bottlenecks in the emirate and attract more investors,” Al Nuaimi pointed out.
He said the municipality was working on several projects to improve the quality of roads in the emirate.
“Roads connecting the industrial areas have been accorded priority and contracting companies are already working on the main roads,” he added.
