Also known as Mawled, or Maled Aluha, it features a long poem about the story of the birth of the Holy Prophet and his Seera (life).
The traditional performance was organised by the Emirates Friendship Group (EFG) in cooperation with the Cultural Foundation and Delma Corner at the grand hall of the Cultural Foundation. Members of the Abu Dhabi National Consultative Council (NCC) and other dignitaries attended the celebration.
A special musical instrument, called ‘daf’, and ‘Al sammaa’, a local musical instrument, were also used to give force to the recitation rhythm. Al sammaa is usually used in Maleds, unless they are held in mosques.
The two-hour Maled celebration included 35 men in two rows facing each other.
The groups recited religious hymn about the Prophet’s life and his unique qualities as God’s Messenger.
The singer, a well-known religious figure who is fully enthralled with the Seera of the Prophet, led the chorus.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Ahmed Ali Al Khoori, a member of the EFG, said the occasion is one of the most sublime religious occasions to revive the authentic local tradition of ‘Al Maled’ in celebrating events of significance to the society.
