Alongside the nips and tucks, scientists say a near breakthrough in the anti-ageing process has been possible through the use of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). The treatment is being successfully used in the US for the past 15 years, and may soon be available in Dubai.
Dr Ali Mohamed, Chairman of The Arabian Academy of Anti-Ageing Medicine says, “When we talk about anti-ageing, people tend to focus on the cosmetic aspects and external appearance. While these are important elements, anti-ageing medicine is also a serious scientific discipline that concerns itself with the “early detection, prevention, treatment and reversal of age-related decline and diseases.”
He explains: “BHRT does not reverse the ageing process but stops it in its tracks.” For years, women have been saddled with degrading terminology such as infertility, pre-menstrual syndrome blues and so on,” he says.
“A woman is adjudged ‘unshapely’ after a certain age but however hard she tries, she doesn’t lose weight. This is only because the hormones that controlled this are not working any more,” explains the doctor.
“By the age of 40, hormones in the body are dying and thus the ageing process starts,” he says.
“Until now, the conventional hormone replacement therapies have been used for treating symptoms such as menopause. These hormones were being made from animal extracts and were unsuited to humans,” says Dr Ali.
