AUST offers BBC courses to media professionals
DUBAI - Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) Network has announced that the institution will, for the first time in the region, offer the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) Training and Development programmes, tailored for media professionals in the UAE.
Around nine media and IT-related training courses from June 3, 2003 to June 2004 will be conducted by BBC certified trainers at different venues in the country, Dr Saeed Abdullah Salman, president of AUST Network announced at a Press conference through a video conference from Abu Dhabi.
Dr Salman said: "By launching such courses of high standard, the university will provide a unique opportunity for media professionals and keep them up-to-date with the development in the media domain.
The short-term intensive courses spanning over a period of one to three days will help participants expand their knowledge and develop a greater understanding of how they can influence and contribute to the main objectives of the business," he pointed out.
Osama Saeed Salman, vice-president of Information, Communication and Promotion at AUST, briefing the Press in Dubai, said that AUST's educational policy had been to bridge the gap between educational institutions and the business community, which it had achieved.
"And now we shall be able to contribute a great deal in creating an innovative platform and a healthy and an efficient environment in the marketplace which has seen a remarkable growth in media, television production companies, many radio and TV broadcasters and international broadcasters operating from the UAE."
Commenting on the courses, Mr Osama pointed out that media professionals would get better results from short, intensive and more formal training.
Initially, the training programme would comprises two courses - news scripting in English will be held between June 3 and 5, while advanced Net searching will be held on June 10, 11 and 12.
