The winners include 101 teachers and three volunteers working at the Ministry of Education and Youth and the Educational Zones spread all over the country. Six research papers on the `Social status of teacher and means of enhancing it' and `Schools as educational institutions', will also receive the award. Mohammed Abdullah Faris, General Secretary of the Award, said that 248 educationists applied for the award and 14 scientific research papers were competing for the first position. He said a special committee comprising representatives from the UAE University and the Educational Zones had minutely evaluated the scientific works.
The Award's Board of Trustees have specified certain criteria for winning the award, including the fact that candidates should have been working in the field of education for at least 15 years and be still holding their positions, explained Mr Faris. He said that candidates should have also worked for not less than six years at one of the country's schools. About 966 teachers, educationists and volunteers have so far benefited from the award since it was initiated in 1996.
