He was kept in police custody more than once, charged with thefts from clinics, salons and clothing stores in residential areas. He is also accused of rape and various other crimes.

According to Colonel Ali Ghanem, Director of Bur Dubai Police Station, the police had been monitoring the suspect under the “Kish Harami” programme after occurrence of a number of thefts in the areas of Jumeirah and Umm Suqueim. After studying the area features and theft style, the police started to monitor the movements of the suspect.

He said that the suspect usedmask and gloves while committing the crimes and left no traces. He usually committed the crimes between 2am and 5am.

The Kish Harami teams have deployed patrols in the areas of Jumeirah and Umm Suqueim, specially at shopping malls, clinics, salons and clothing stores.

He said the teams found that no theft had taken place during this period in the area and nobody other than the residents entered there. So the police had tactical withdrawal of patrols from entrances. “It was directed to adjacent areas to make the thief feel that the area was free of security presence. After four days, the police managed to nab the suspect, who was moving in a rent-a-car, carrying a bag with a screwdriver to open the doors.”

Colonel Ali Ghanem said that the defendant admitted that he committed 11 thefts and other crimes including rape and five robberies in the area.

He said that the 40-year-old suspect, started committing crimes since the age of 16. He was recently released from a Sharjah prison after a long jail term and soon he was nabbed by Kish Harami teams.
