Unity between faiths has been the central theme of the pontiff's Asia trip and a declaration they signed called for 'religious harmony for the sake of humanity'
While her attendees are over 200, Lidia's focus is on making sure the young participants enjoy the creative side of art while in the process improving on their skills.
"We all accept the fact that colour and art plays an important role in our lives and that's why I believe that art should not be taught in a cut and dry way or with a highly academic approach. Art is inspirational, art has feelings, art speaks, and art has an opinion. Art is the window to our visual panorama.
"Just look at our cities, our schools, our places of worship, our hotels, our buildings and bridges, our workplaces, they all have elements of art and colour imbedded in them or else they will be lifeless. Look at how we use colour to make our homes more alive and energetic. Colour and art is a necessity for better living and that is what I am emphasising on in my classes.
"I want to inspire motivate and develop the necessary skills, techniques and contemporary styles in my students so they can in return build up their creative, imaginative and perceptual abilities to use art in practical terms, both now and in the future," said Lidia Shahabi.
Psychologists and scholars in education consider art as being a universal language and the brush of colour its vocabulary. At the Modesh Friends Club it is our goal to help the youth enjoy the experience, have fun while learning and stay encouraged to continue learning art.
"I have found through my years of working as an educator that youth are extremely intelligent when it comes to using art elements to express their feelings and thoughts and it's truly a pleasure to watch students at this event use art as an alternative means of communication, I hope we can continue this artistic dialogue year round," added Lidia Shahabi.
