The previous figure was from the total federal government spendings, which was Dh20.6 billion for the same period of time.
The report stated that last year, the federal spending on the health sector stood at 0.6 per cent of the GDP, as the growth average in the health sector touched 6.8 per cent. According to the report, the expenditure on the health sector reached Dh1,732 million during the year 2003, with a growth average of 6.8 per cent, and a growth percentage of 5.5 per cent. The report also showed that the government federal spending was increasing, as it was 4.4 per cent in 2000, compared to 6.5 per cent in 2001, 2.0 per cent in 2002, and 5.5 per cent in 2003.
The health sector received an increasing share of government spending because of maintenance, expanding facilities, and health services.
As stated in the report, the period between 1989 and 1995 witnessed a 5.8 per cent steady annual growth for the health sector, with 1 per cent from GDP revenues and with a value of $1.2 billion during the year 1995. This means that the percentage of increase had reached Dh400 million during the period 1995 to 2003, reflecting the size of the increase in spending in this sector.
