The delegation was led by Baqar Muthar, Chief Information Officer, UBL, and was welcomed by Indranil Guha, Head of Network Services Unit, Operation Network Services Section, IT Department, Dubai Municipality and his team.

The monitoring system is part of the Network Operation Centre (NOC) at Dubai Municipality, and enables the municipality to pro-actively monitor all its critical systems from the NOC, either by application/ service performance, hardware or by network. A core benefit will also include the rapid identification of the root causes of any problems so that more time will be spent addressing and correcting problem areas.

“Dubai Municipality is among the first government departments in the region to successfully implement such an advanced monitoring system. We are pleased to show the capabilities and benefits of this system to the representatives from the UBL and we hope that they are able to learn from our experience of working with this system,” said Abdulla Al Shaibani, Assistant Director-General for Technical Services, Dubai Municipality.

“The NOC fully complements the vision of Dubai Municipality to enhance the level of services offered to the residents of Dubai. The automatic generation of alerts to System Administrators relating to any degradation or non performance of the network, operating systems, databases or applications will make their jobs easier and ensure timely corrective measures. Equipping them with the ability to monitor all systems centrally, correlate various events, and assess their implication by efficiently using existing resources will further reduce operational and management costs,” he added.

In the scenario of a network failure, which could have an impact on key business systems, the NOC can identify the key systems affected, and provide System Administrators with advance warning. They would then notify the relevant people and appropriate action can be taken. This demonstrates how the NOC will be able to enhance productivity, improve availability and provide better service.

“The significant surge in network usage and the increase in the number of eServices offered by Dubai Municipality have amplified the need for us to ensure high levels of monitoring across our network. With the use of this technologically advanced system, we have been able to efficiently monitor the applications that are most used by our internal users, as well as eServices offered to our customers through the Dubai Central Laboratory,” said Al Shaibani.

The NOC also has integrated the SMS alert feature, which is capable of reporting faults and critical problems in the form of SMS messages to the concerned engineers round the clock.
