Marwan bin Beyat, DTCM Deputy Manager Events and Chairman of the Sweets Surprises Committee, told reporters at a Press conference held at the Dubai Cruise Terminal yesterday that Sweets Surprises is being organised by the DTCM for the first time during the DSS at a budget of Dh3.5 million, 25 per cent more than last year's DTCM budget for the Food Surprises Week.
Sweets Surprises, which runs from July 10 till 16, will showcase over 120 sweets and sugary cuisines from all over the world, fruit and chocolate carvings and popular local sweets. Mr Bin Beyat said that as sweet is something enjoyed by kids as well as adults, the theme will be suitable for people of all ages. The activities will be held in eight shopping malls and 33 hotels and the opening ceremony will be held at the Al Ghurair City.
"We have colourful events in store during the Sweet Surprises Week. Several workshops will be organised to teach children the art of preparing delicious treats," Mr Bin Beyat said.
Abdin Nasralla, General Manager, The World Trade Centre Hotel and General Manager, Jumeirah Hospitality, said that 1,604 cakes, ranging in small to large sizes, will be prepared by executive chefs from Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Jumeirah Beach Club. The cakes, to be sold in nominal prices, will be sold at Mercato Centre. Proceeds of the sale will be donated to charity.
Uwe Micheel, Executive Chef, Hotel Intercontinental Dubai, said that a charity auction of more than 300 cakes from 12 different hotels will be organised by the Emirates Culinary Guild at BurJuman Centre on July 14. A big surprise on July 15, to be announced by Philips at a later date, awaits visitors and residents, according to Lina Kandakji, Training & Customer Services Manager, Philips Middle East and Africa.
Ahmed Al Tunaiji, Deputy Chairman of the Sweets Surprises Committee at DTCM, said that DTCM had launched an advertising campaign from June 19 till July 14 to target the regional market by generating interest among them about Sweet Surprises.
Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, DTCM Deputy Manager, Visitors' Information Bureaus and Media Relations In-Charge, said that staff at the bureaus underwent several workshops offering information on the emirate and the calendar of activities of Sweets Surprises.
