Yesterday announced the launch of Sonic Express Cargo express parcel service to Pakistan.
Addressing a Press meeting, the CEO of Sonic Express, Roshan Akhtar, said that Pakistanis in the UAE can now send express cargo parcels upto 5kg in the Sonic Express Box to their loved ones back home.
The company has introduced this service in liason with the Pakistan government for the first time in the UAE. The rates for delivery in any city or province is uniform, i.e. a 5kg parcel will be delivered for Dh62 (by air) to any city, town or village in Pakistan. Sonic Express has appointed Free Sky Travel as its sole selling agent for Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The Commercial Secretary of the Pakistan Consulate, Najeeb Abbasi, who was also present on the occasion, said that the expatriate community will definitely benefit from the service. He also assured of the consulate's support in the matter.
"Sonic Express will deliver the parcels at any location in Pakistan," Mr Akhtar said, adding that the delivery of the special gift boxes will be done in four days in the main cities of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshwar, while it will take five days in other parts of Pakistan.
Mr Akhtar said that the parcels will be sent as normal cargo, adding that in future, the company hopes to lift 200 boxes each day.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Mr Akhtar said that new service would serve as a boon for Pakistanis in the UAE. "We have made effective use of a postman's services, because in our society, the postman still reaches where a courier cannot," he said. Mr Akhtar explained that the modus operandi was decided after a thorough research.
At present, the service is operating from Dubai, but plans include expansion to the entire UAE and later services from Europe via Dubai are also in the pipeline. Mr Akhtar said that soon the Pakistan government will give an exemption in duty on certain items which will be implemented by Sonic Express.
General Manager Free Sky Travel, Saleem Sharif, said that the company had already short-listed several ‘Collection Centres' for the customers to deliver their parcels. "Our dedicated team of professionals will provide logistics within the territory and ensure that this service benefits as many people as possible," he said.
Mr Sharif, who is also the GSA of Damal Airlines of Somalia and Air Corridor of Mozambique, said that they would be promoting the product extensively amongst the Pakistani community through their associations, organisations, social welfare centres etc.
Mr Sharif added that plans had been drawn for extending similar services in conjunction with respective government postal agencies of other countries of the subcontinent.
