The accused were identified as BA, RA, AA and MA.

At 9pm on January 6, an Iraqi woman HA informed the Bur Dubai Police Station that she had received a telephone call from RA, her niece who told her that she was travelling with her Iraqi girlfriend and her husband in their vehicle to the Emirates Mall, but on their way they were stopped by four men driving two vehicles without number plates.

The men told them that they were CID personnel of Dubai Police, asked them to show their identification cards and accompany them to the police station. When her niece called up, the aunt advised her to ensure that her girlfriend and her husband also came to the police station.

However, when her aunt called later, she found her niece's mobile was switched off, while the friend's phone was ringing but nobody answered the call. Later, the friend called up the aunt and informed her that her niece was forcibly taken away by four men driving two cars — a Land Cruiser and Toyota pick-up — without number plates.

The police was alerted and arrested the four Omani nationals in the desert after they had raped the girl. During the police investigation, the girl said that three of the four accused had raped her without her consent, while the fourth man threatened to kill her if she screamed. Three of the accused said that they did not know the girl or her phone number but confessed they had raped her by force, while the fourth accused also confessed that his friends had raped the girl.

Earlier, the victim's friend and her husband told the police that the four men had kidnapped the Iraqi girl.

But, during the public prosecution interrogation, three accused said that the victim was lying and claimed that she consented to go with them, while the fourth accused said that the trio had raped her.

The victim's friend also changed her statement. She denied that the victim was her friend and the one who had claimed to be her husband told the public prosecution that he was just a driver.

The victim's aunt told Khaleej Times that the family of the kidnappers had offered to pay money to dismiss the case. But she has refused to negotiate because she wants the men to be punished as they have ruined her niece's future.
