The festival is being organised by the Alliance Francaise, under the patronage of Patrice Paoli, the French Ambassador to the UAE.

The French film week begins with Hors de Prix (Not Affordable) by Pierre Salvador (2006), a comedy. It’s the story of Irene, a shrewd adventurer, who is under the impression that Jean, a shy waiter in a grand hotel, is a millionaire. When she discovers his real status, she immediately ditches him. Jean, in love as he is, goes after her.

Mauvais Joueurs (Bad players), a 2004 film by Frederic Balekjian, will be shown on Sunday night. The story is set in Sentier, the garment district of Paris. Christmas is coming and Vahe Krikorian’s life is going to pieces. The family store is going to shut down and the woman who loves him leaves.

Monday is set to see a lighter story, with the film Les Soeurs Fachees (The angry sisters), a 2004 production by Alexandra Leclere. Louise, a beautician from Mans, comes on a three-day visit to her sister, Martine, who lives in Paris. Martine has everything. Everything, except what is essential in life and Louise has.

Les Egares (The misplaced), a 2003 film by Andre Techine, is the Tuesday night film. The Germans are about to enter Paris and Odile gets caught up in the widespread panic, so she flees with her two children. Like everyone else, they start going south, driving day and night.

On Wednesday, February 14, the festival will end with Le Coeur Des Hommes (The heart of men), a 2003 film by Marc Esposito. Alex, Antoine, Jeff and Manu have been friends for 25 years. They have all achieved their professional goals, so all seems to go well. Suddenly, the death of a father, a wife’s infidelity and a daughter’s wedding is happening.

All the movies start at 7.30pm and have Arabic and English subtitles. The tickets are priced at Dh35.

The five animation films for children, which will go on simultaneously, are: Kirkou et La Sorciere (Kirkou and the sorceress) by Michel Ocelot (1998), La Prophetie Des Grenouilles (The prophecy of the frogs) by Jacques-Remy Girerd (2003), Le Chien, Le General Et Les Oiseaux (The dog, the general and the birds) by Francis Nielsen (2003), L’ile De Black Mor (The Black Mor Island) by Jean-Francois Laguionie (2004), and Les Triplettes De Belleville (The triplets of Belleville) by Sylvain Chomet (2003).

All the animation films start from 5pm and the tickets are priced at Dh25.
