Romeo Gulapa, founder and prime mover of GOFIL, said: "In November last year, we launched a highly successful signature campaign which was aimed at drawing the attention of government officials to realise our cause of establishing an OFW hospital. When I was in Manila in December last year, a party-list congressman whom I had approached had assured me that a five-hectare land in Clark Air Base in Angeles City will be allocated for the hospital. Everything is finally falling into place."
Mr Gulapa said that the 12 prime movers of GOFIL are currently raising some 100,000 pesos for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration, a requirement in setting up a hospital. Other prime movers of this campaign include Danilo Mendoza, Rodrigo Caparas, Diosdado Caluya, Tony Mamaril, Mario Torres, Arnel Quillope, Manny Choco, Emily Inocalla, Dolores L. Cea, Mervin Levita and Conrad David.
Without disclosing any amount for the initial funding of the project, Mr Gulapa said that the Foundation will be relying on the generosity and support of fellow OFWs to be able to lay the foundation of the hospital. The OFW hospital will be subsidised by the OFWs themselves, including the prime movers of the Foundation.
