The Skytrax Star Rating programme for the world airport industry surveyed more than 475 airports worldwide on a wide range of service sectors.

The rankings were awarded in various categories as, Best Airport Worldwide (covering transportation, arrivals and departures, security, immigration and customs, terminal and business facilities), Best Duty Free shopping, Best Dining and so on.

Abu Dhabi International Airport's duty free shopping complex stood out among all the airports in the world and was ranked in second place in the survey.

Skytrax Surveys is the market research division of Skytrax Research, the London based specialist aviation advisers. Skytrax provides extensive aviation product and service research capabilities to airlines, airport operators, and general travel product suppliers across the globe.

The rankings were awarded based upon a number of factors including information about shopping facilities, exciting/stimulating shopping environment, selection of shop outlets, prices of international brand items in shops, quality of staff service in shops and language abilities of staff.

Mohamed Mounib, Managing Director of ADDF, commenting on the award said, "The main factor behind our nomination by the international traveller is customers satisfaction with the best quality available. This has been the mission of our Chairman, Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, who has always valued quality and service above profit."

He said the ADDF puts in a great deal of effort to ensure that it stays on top, through staff training, careful product selection, and a wide range of themed promotions to create an exciting shopping environment.

"To be ranked second in the world in this prestigious survey shows that our efforts have not been in vain and that we are heading in the right direction," he added.

The ADDF has 34 branded shops and corners spread over 3,750 square metres on two floors, with a wide range of luxury and mid-range brands to suit every pocket. It pioneered the shop-in-shop concept with branded corners for various prestigious international brands such as Bvlgari, Burberry, Christian Dior, Yves St. Laurent and many more.

The ADDF has been the proud recipient of numerous awards over the years, most importantly winning the Frontier Award for 'Best Marketing Campaign by a Retailer' in 2001, 2002 and 2003, considered to be the "Oscars" of the duty free industry.
