Mahfoud Al Harthy, Regional General Manager-Gulf at Gulf Air, stated this in an interview with Khaleej Times during the ongoing Arabian Travel Market.

Gulf Air has strategically expanded its network and introduced a number of unique world-class services. The ATM is an ideal venue for demonstrating why the airline is fast-becoming the airline of choice. The ATM, Mr Al Harthy pointed out, presented a valuable opportunity to expose the airline's products and services and meet with Gulf Air clients and partners.

"Gulf Air is introducing a new daily direct service from Muscat to London with effect from June 21 that will link Muscat to the UK for the first time. Gulf Air is also set to launch five flights weekly from Abu Dhabi to Ras Al Khaimah, making Abu Dhabi, currently the biggest hub between the flight network, as a gateway, and increasing the traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport," he stated.

The airline will also introduce daily services from Dubai to London. Both will also be launched starting June 21. "Currently, Gulf Air flies twice daily from Abu Dhabi to London, and we will be introducing flights from Dubai to London via Bahrain starting June 21," Mr Al Harthy said.

Gulf Air, he said, is all set to move back into profitability next year and forecast a break-even scenario for this year. "Last year, we have reduced our debts by BD20 million, and we hope to eliminate all our losses this year to enable us to declare profit next year," he stressed

"Gulf Air's approach for the past two years has been aggressive and dynamic in our initiatives with our customers, and hopefully the positive trend will continue. We have to compete aggressively in the market and eventually experience growth," he concluded.

Founded in 1950, Gulf Air is owned by the Kingdom of Bahrain, Oman and the UAE and is the only truly pan Gulf carrier in the region. The airline's network stretches from Europe to Asia and covers 45 cities in 34 countries. The fleet is one of the most modern in the Middle East and comprises 34 aircraft.

Programming deal with the BBC

Gulf Air has signed an agreement with BBC World, the BBC's commercially funded 24-hour international news and information channel, which sees Gulf Air carrying the biggest block of BBC World programming offered by any airline in the world.

Gulf Air's passengers can now enjoy two-hour strands of news and feature programmes catering for a wide range of interests, from travel and motoring, to news, movies and technology, on all of the airline's flights.

The in-flight BBC World channel consists of Talking Movies, Click Online, Extra Time and Fast track. A second package of two programmes each for inbound and outbound routes comprises Click Online, Hard Talk, Top Gear and Reporters. Channel content is refreshed monthly.
