HCT signs key deal

ABU DHABI — The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) yesterday signed a contract with the GHQ of the UAE Armed Forces to develop a network of Institutes of Applied Technology to ensure that the secondary-level technical education provides the UAE with increasingly skilled workforce it requires.

On the directives of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, the HCT and the UAE Armed Forces have agreed on a framework in which all sectors of industry will participate to dramatically improve technological education outcomes.

The agreement, signed yesterday at Idex by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Education and HCT's Chancellor; and Staff Lt-General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, will see 500 students enrol in institutes in Dubai and Al Ain from September 2005 with rapid expansion to 2,000 students.
