A two-act English play written by well-known playwright and narrator Pratap Sharma, and directed by acclaimed theatre personality and popular cinema artiste Lillete Dubey, Zen Katha is the story of the Pallava prince from the ancient kingdom of Kanchi during the Fifth Century. The play, which traces the journey of the great man, who founded Zen Buddhism and the martial arts, from India to China, is rich in visuals, drama and history.
It revolves around a contemporary ensemble of two women and three men who reach back, through Zen and the martial arts, to the year 525 AD to seek out the reality and spirit of the man who first brought these possibilities together.
It is a man’s story seen, not only through the eyes of each member of the group, but also through the conflicts endured by the woman who followed him, literally, to the ends of the earth. Her relationship with him undergoes many changes, developing from carnal lust to intellectual admiration and, eventually, spiritual awakening. The play will be staged at the Emirates Auditorium at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 8.30pm on Thursday and 7.30pm on Friday.
