Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdulla Hashim, Senior Manager of e-Company — Etisalat’s one-stop e-powerhouse business unit that offers Internet services and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) solutions — announced that the company’s internal analysis had shown that there was no reported problem of slowness in browsing during Eid Al Fitr in the UAE. Many customers that use either DSL or dial-up Internet services supposed that the Emirates Communications Corporation or Etisalat was responsible for not solving the problem of slow browsing.

Hashim, however, said that Internet bandwidth in the UAE, at present, is more than adequate for meeting the needs of users in the country.

He said that the slowness of browsing may be attributed to other causes, such as specific applications being run on one PC at the same time. Moreover, popular sites like Yahoo and Hotmail face heavy traffic, and more so during holidays, which may explain a lag in response time for accessing such sites, due to the load on their web servers.

Last August, Internet traffic in the UAE had been affected because of the defect that had also affected India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Therefore, some users supposed that the same fault was repeated and undersea cables were damaged.

“There is no relationship between the two occurrences. Slow browsing during holidays normally happens due to the enormous number of users that access the Internet at the same time,” Hashim added.
