Kavin's death may unsettle classmates

DUBAI — When school re-opens after the summer break in September, classmates and teachers of Kavin Kumar Karunakaran, the seven-year-old boy who died last month under mysterious circumstances in Dubai, will not find him amidst them.

Kavin, a student of Our Own English High School (OOEHS), Dubai, reportedly died on July 22 on his way to Zulekha hospital in Dubai after a bout of excessive vomiting. According to the hospital doctor, the child was brought dead to the hospital by his parents and the police was immediately informed. The doctor was unable to comment on the cause of death.

The only child, Kavin's death was reported to the school by a family friend. The friend, when contacted by Khaleej Times, refused to give any details on the child's death. However, he said that Kavin's body has been taken to India for cremation. Both his parents are currently in Chennai and it is unfortunate that the boy passed away at such an young age.


The school headmaster, Mohammed Abdul Hamid, expressed shock over the death of the student. "It is the most unfortunate thing to have happened. Kavin's untimely death has upset all of us in school. It will be pretty disturbing also for his friends and classmates when they come to know that Kavin is no more."

Unable to recall how long Kavin had been with the school, Hamid said : "it is unfortunate that a bright young child has been snatched away by death."

"I tried to find out the cause of his death, but learnt from a family friend that the child had been vomiting for a whole day and so was his father. He died on the way to the hospital."
