Khaleda Zia's UAE visit called off
ABU DHABI — The four-day official visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to the UAE has been called off.
The visit was to start from yesterday.
The step has been taken in view of the recent developments in Bangladesh where suicide bombers carried out attacks killing 13 people and wounding nearly 100 at Khulna city, which is located about 350km from the capital Dhaka.
"We are disappointed that the visit has been called off, as it would have marked the first-ever official visit by the prime minister to the UAE. She had made an unofficial stop-over here in 1991 from Saudi Arabia en route to Dhaka," said Mirza Shamsuzzaman, Bangladesh Ambassador.
"The visit will, however, be scheduled for a mutually-convenient date in the near future," said the ambassador.
