Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs, has announced that Khalfan Mohammed Al Roumi, who previously held the portfolios of labour and social affairs, health and information and culture, and Faraj bin Ali bin Humouda Al Dhahiri, a famous local businessman and former member of the FNC and National Consultative Council (NCC) had become members of the NEC as representative of the private sector.
Welcoming Al Roumi and Al Dhahiri as NEC members, Gargash appreciated their vital role in enriching the national work through tapping of their long, rich experiences, prudence and sound judgment.
“I’m confident that their contributions along with those of other members will produce a distinguished national action that will serve interest of the homeland and its citizen,” he affirmed.
The NEC was set up by decree No. 3 of 2006 issued by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the method of electing representatives of the seven emirates to the FNC.
The decree called for establishing a National Electoral Committee, to be chaired by the minister of state for FNC affairs.
Other members of the committee include the ministers of justice, health and culture, youth and community development, secretary-general of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Ministry of Interior under-secretary, secretary-general of Ministry of State for FNC Affairs, who is to act as the NEC’s rapporteur, in addition to two public personalities.
