Your favourite newspaper, a pioneer in English journalism in the region, bagged two awards for excellence from the Society for Newspaper Design (SND).
KTwon for News Design among broadsheets and also for Sports Broadsheets. In the 33rdedition, the jury selected from over 230 entries. It was a debut year for Khaleej Timesat the awards and the newspaper submitted 20 entries of which two were picked for raising the bar in excellence.
The News Design award went to the page designed by A. U. Santhosh Kumar, and the Sports Broadsheet award was bagged by Roberto Canseco.
Art Director Canseco has led a small but dedicated team who have put their hearts into their work, often burning the midnight oil and working to tight deadlines. ‘‘It has been a team effort and we back each other up very well.
And coming in our debut year, it’s a good recognition of our efforts.This is just the beginning of bigger achievements,’’ he said.
Senior Designer Santhosh Kumar said he is pleased with the honour and feels motivated to do better.
“I’m happy we did well in our first attempt. The best is yet to be,” he said.
Rhona Prast, one of the judges, commented on the entries: ‘‘I noted the decline in the physical size of many broadsheet newspapers. Many more designers are having to produce attractive pages with less space and fewer resources (and probably with less time).”
