In the second session of the16th Legislative Chapter chaired by Speaker Abdullah Al Masood, the house yesterday recommended laying new highways of international standards to cope with the growth of the emirate’s transportation sector and reduce traffic bottlenecks. They reiterated calls to improve the Abu Dhabi-Silaa road, which is an international road that connects to other GCC countries.

The house had earlier recommended laying a road parallel to the Abu Dhabi-Silaa road linking all the commercial and residential areas in the Western region.

Some members yesterday recommended setting up an authority on roads and transportation to devise strategy.

“I propose instituting a body which is responsible for regulations and strategic plans to further develop the transportation network for the emirate of Abu Dhabi,’’ said member Ghaith bin Hamil bin Khadim Al Ghaith.
