NCC panel selects new office-bearers

ABU DHABI – The Interior and Defence Affairs Committee of the National Consultative Council (NCC) met yesterday at the council's headquarters in Abu Dhabi and selected Abdullah bin Ali Al Kaabi as its chairman and Abdullah bin Ghanim Al Mazroui as secretary.

Members of the committee were also selected. They are Maktoum bin Mohammed Maktoum Al Gharify, Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Dhaher, Khadim bin Mohammed Al Rumithy, Ali bin Mohammed Abdullah Al Saygh and Hadhir Mubarak Al Muhiri.

The educational committee of the council will hold its first meeting today at which the members will select the head and the secretary.


Meanwhile the NCC received yesterday a 28-member Thai parliamentary delegation headed by Kumloo Mhep Devakul. Devakul is also the chief of the Freedom Committee in the Thai parliament. The delegation met the speaker of the NCC Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Masaoud.

The NCC will discuss at its next session the topic that was submitted by the member of the council Ghaith bin Hamil Khadim Al Ghaith regarding the arrangements to meet the costs of marriage.

Al Ghaith stressed the importance of the role of media and the Islamic scholars in convincing people not to exaggerate the costs of marriage.

He noted that there are some laws which have fixed the value of the dowry and stressed that it should not be more than Dh20,000 and the deferred dowry not more than Dh30,000.

Meanwhile, NCC members were firm that private sector should have a leading role in the Emiratization efforts in addition to providing more jobs for UAE citizens.
