The thrice-weekly service to Munich, the second-largest hub in Germany, builds on the success of the airline’s six flights per week service to Frankfurt and further strengthens Cathay Pacific’s position in the region.

“The introduction of the freighter service to Munich adds an important new destination to our schedule from Dubai and provides better opportunities for business here to reach their customers and suppliers. With this new flight, Cathay Pacific freighter services link Dubai with seven cities in Europe - London, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Manchester, Milan and now Munich also - as well, of course, as Hong Kong and beyond,” said Philip Herbert, Country Manager UAE and Oman for Cathay Pacific.

Captain Geoff Denham, Cathay Pacific’s Chief Pilot B747, commanded the maiden voyage. “Such is the importance of Dubai in Cathay Pacific’s network that for many of us on the freighter fleet, Dubai is now almost our home away from home. The new service from Dubai to Munich further reinforces the status of Dubai as the premier outstation for Cathay Pacific’s cargo operations,” he said.

The Cathay Pacific flights to Munich provide more choice and additional capacity for customers shipping goods to Germany. In addition to the direct flights to Munich and Frankfurt, Cathay Pacific also has an extensive dedicated trucking service that links other German cities, such as Bremen, Cologne, Dresden, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munster, Nuremberg and Stuttgart.

Cathay Pacific continues to report increases in both passenger and freight transport worldwide. The airline carried 76,769 tonnes of cargo alone in June 2004 - traditionally a quiet time of year - the highest June total on record, with a cargo load factor of 70.2 per cent.

The new flights depart Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and return from Munich on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
