The new shuttle service connects Sharjah city with Al Dhaid, passing by Masafi and Fujairah, and ends at Khor Fakkan.
“A new bus stop will be set up by the Al Sidji Petrol Station on the main road as part of the new route which connects Sharjah city with the cities of the eastern coast passing by Al Sidji area,” Intercity Transport Manager Adel Khalil told Khaleej Times.
“Passenger shelters will to be installed soon at the new stop for the convenience of the public.”
The move, which is in response to the pressing demand from the public, is part of the transport development in the central and eastern regions. “Three bus routes are now connecting all the cities and regions of the eastern and central regions of the emirate,” Khalil said.
“Three more routes are to be added this year to the Sharjah bus network which is now covering 21 different directions.” Khalil said the eight buses running on the new route do 17 trips every day so that more passengers can enjoy the service. “Daily trips start from 8:30am to noon, with a frequency time of one hour, however, more trips are to be operated during the weekends and holidays,” he said.
Yusuf Hammadi, Manager, Sharjah Transport Office, Eastern and Central Regions, said the eight 30/47-seater vehicles running on the route cover a long distance in each direction, and hence the tariff varies.
“Taking the bus from Al Sidji to Al Dhaid costs Dh5. The same tariff is paid for the Al Sidji to Masafi or Fujairah trips and from Fujairah to Khor Fakkan,” he said. — ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
