The department has recently issued a number of new rules and regulations to be strictly followed by these facilities.

A RED source, who requested anonymity, said the department, in cooperation with different government authorities, is planning to launch intensive inspection campaign to streamline the activities of these centres to ensure that they follow the rules set by the government body.

According to the source, the RED has also issued letters to the massage facilities directing them not to do any such work that violates what is stipulated in their licences. It has also warned that their licence would not be renewed in case they proved to be committing any violations.

The letters also asked those seeking licence renewal to first obtain the approval of the Ministry of Health, said the source, adding that the department has also banned massage centres from receiving clients under 20 years of age.

According to the source, the new regulations have also stipulated that a centre will be reserved either for men or for women and that all employees should be of the same sex. Besides, the centre’s premises would not be used as a residential compound for its workers. Besides, the centres cannot operate after 10pm.
