Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, RTA, said the headquarters will be surrounded by a lake that will give an impression that the building is in the midst of the water body.

The new building consists of 22 storeys including 19 floors and three basement levels for services, he said adding that the office space will cover around 20,200 square metres, in addition to the main reception that will occupy 500 square metres.

The building will also include a large control room to monitor traffic movement across the city, stressing that this room would be the first of its kind in the Middle East in terms of size and technology used. The facade will have giant screens.

Al Tayer said, “The design was selected from among 18 drawings presented by international companies from Europe, America and Asia. We selected the design presented by Zwarts & Jansma Architects, a Dutch Company, based in Amsterdam.”

The building will have a parking lot accommodating more than 850 cars, divided into three basement levels. It will operate with the help of an intelligent system to prevent congestion at entrances and exits.
