Nearly 90 shops were affected as shop-owners complained that water seeped into the mall due to the poor drainage system and damaged the stored and displayed goods.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Shahdab Mir, owner of Kani Home, a luxury and fashion store, said, “We were surprised when water entered our shops yesterday morning. The water stood at a few inches above the ground but caused us a damage of an estimated Dh3 million.”

“The main problem that I faced was when the carpets at my shop were damaged due to the rain water. I tried to contact the management, but no one was available. Though they tried to drain the water out, the floors remained slippery which was cumbersome and a nuisance for us,” he said, adding that this is not the first time that water has seeped into the mall. The mall management was not available for comment.
