At the time of going to Press, water supply was not restored, although an official at Sewa emergency service informed that it would be restored by evening yesterday.

According to residents, they have been without water for cooking and washing. "There is not enough water for a shower and we have no idea when the water supply will be restored," residents complained, saying they are faced with difficulties in carrying out their necessary house chores without water.

Wilson, a resident of Victoria building, said: "Water shortage is the main problem we are facing now. Several times now our taps go dry and this keeps recurring." "How can we survive without water?" he asked while urging the officials to resolve the problem soon.

He disclosed that he had tried to contact the Sharjah Water and Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) but failed to reach them for any information regarding the cause of the disruption of water supply to his building."

“I am living here with my family and last two days we are struggling to survive. When the taps went dry we hoped water supply will be restored soon. But nothing has happened yet," he said.

Beena, another resident in Rolla, said "We are using bottled water even for taking a bath. The serious problem is we do not know when the water will be restored. If it happens so regularly, how does the authority expect us to cope with the problem and survive. It is impossible to rely on bottled water for all the needs. We cannot afford it," she pointed out.

She disclosed that they were using disposable plates to eat food as there was no water to wash the dishes."I do not understand why this problem remains unresolved,'' Beena complained, saying their area is constantly faced with water supply problem.

A worker residing in Rolla disclosed that he was not taking bath after the taps went dry."I am staying in a sharing accommodation. I do not have money to spend on buying bottled water. I hope the water will be restored soon," he said.

Although, no officials from Sewa were available to explain the cause of the intermittent water supply problem faced by residents of Rolla, the Sewa emergency number official said that the authority was carrying out maintenance work of a water desalination plant in Sharjah.
