Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, yesterday inaugurated the Dh100 million Kalba Hospital.

The new well-equipped hospital, spread over an area of 15,000 square metres, has a 100-bed capacity, with latest healthcare facilities.

The inauguration function was attended by Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah; Shaikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Vice-President of the Khorfakkan Amiri Court; Shaikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Vice-President of Kalba Amiri Court; Hamad Abdul Rahman Al Midfa, Minister of Health; and Shaikh Mohammad bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health. Also present were Dr Mahmoud Fikry, Assistant Under-Secretary for protective medicine, the director of Sharjah Medical Zone and members of the Sharjah Consultative Council.

On the occasion, Hamad Abdul Rahman spoke on the role of the new hospital.

In his speech, Shaikh Mohammad bin Saqr Al Qasimi elaborated on the medical centres proposed to be constructed in Sharjah in 2005 and 2006. “The year 2005 will be Sharjah's Health Year,” he said.

Dr Mahmoud Fikry reviewed the various medical services in the new hospital.
