Which cleared him of alleged sexual misconduct and allegations of accepting improper payments while he was working as Inspector-General at the United Nations (UN). This was the second time the investigation team cleared him of the allegations, dismissing them as baseless.
Speaking toKhaleej Times, Nair said: “I got an apology letter from Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General, last week conveying his dismay on the extended period of unnecessary public innuendo as a result of anonymous complaints. He expressed his concern over the deliberate attempt to damage my name. I am happy to be out of these malicious and completely baseless charges."
The results of the latest investigation were released recently. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, was quoted as saying that the Secretary General decided that there was no further action to be taken against the diplomat.
Some of the anonymous complaints were raised against Nair by the UN Staff Council, which is the UN staff Union.
Nair retired from the UN post a year ago and was posted by the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Consul-General in Dubai.
"I was working in UN as Under Secretary General for Internal Oversight Services and I had to point out some of the malpractices during my service period. This created some enemies for me who instigated the allegations. Now everything is crystal clear," he added.
Nair served the UN from 2000 until last year. He was charged with making sexual advances to a female staff member. He was also accused of showing favouritism in hiring.
"After the first investigation report, it was clear to the Singapore government that the allegations were baseless. That's why they appointed me as the Consul-General in Dubai. The government defended me all this time because they understood that the allegations were instigated by vested interests," he said.
