The day-long ceremony, to be organised under the patronage of Shaikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Chairman of the Club, will feature a spectrum of spectacular events including miscellaneous heritage and folk shows and competitions in addition to art shows.
It will be held at the village on the Breakwater.
The event, which includes morning and evening programmes, will kick off at 9am with a spectrum of heritage and folk shows including folk games, contests for all age groups, and handicraft works.
A special programme for children has been prepared in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police including magic shows, cartoons, art workshops and colour sand sculptures. Gifts will be distributed to all children attending the event.
An art exhibition showcasing works by Arab and local artists will be organised as part of the celebration. At around 4.30pm, folk troupes including Al Ayyalah, Al Harbeiya, and Naashat will entertain the crowds. The afternoon programme includes boat races (22 feet and 43 feet) along Abu Dhabi Corniche where the end-point will be at the Breakwater, where a prize ceremony will be held. The UAE Armed Forces is also taking part with spectacular parachuting shows.
Evening activities will start at 9pm with fireworks to be staged from a sea spot just next to the village. This will be followed by a grand concert featuring a number of famous Arab, Gulf and local singers, with a number of famous Nabati poets reciting poems during intervals.
Throughout the day, the Heritage Village will be open to the public. Visitors can tour the village in a journey to the past and experience traditional life in Abu Dhabi before oil revenues altered the landscape, economically and socially. In addition to bedouin tents, there are reconstructions of palm ('arish) and other houses, old fishing villages and traditional souqs.
They will be offered Arabic coffee in the traditional Arabian hospitality.
