Commenting on the launch of the 'Worldtracer Online', Niranjan Fonseka, Worldtracer Co-ordinator for SriLankan Airlines, said: "This is a major step forward from a customer's point of view and also a further step in IT enhancement projects for SriLankan's Airport Service."
Worldtracer Online and WAP went live last month and passengers can access 'Worldtracer Online' through the SriLankan web page (www.srilankan.aero) by clicking on "Track Your Bag" or via www.worldtracer.com /filedsp/ul.htm.
To access Worldtracer Online, a passenger is required to enter a 10-digit Worldtracer File Reference Number and his or her last name. This entry produces information regarding the status of his or her luggage.
"This will definitely help our customers to obtain the most current information on mishandled baggage and will save a lot of time on telephone calls for both our passengers and our staff," said Lilani Wijayaratne, SriLankan's Airport Service Standards Controller.
SriLankan's Head of Service Delivery, Walter Riggans, said: "A very small percentage of baggage does 'go astray' from time to time. A majority of airlines are members of the Worldtracer system which allows those airlines to enter details of mishandled (lost or found) baggage and a match can then be made allowing the bag to be returned to its owner very quickly."
