UAQ shops to be allowed to use pavement space

UMM AL QUWAIN — Shops and commercial outlets in Umm Al Quwain will soon be allowed to use the front space on the pavements for a monthly fees, Khaleej Times has learnt.

According to a source from the Health Section of UAQ Municipality, a circular to this effect will soon be circulated by the civic body to all shops, outlets, companies, factories and cafes in the emirate, allowing them to obtain a permit to use the front areas of their outlets to display products and goods etc.

The source also confirmed that the circular will be issued in three languages — Arabic, English and Urdu.


According to the source, traditional cafes will be allowed to keep tables and chairs outside at a monthly charge of Dh100, and a maximum of Dh1,000 annually.

The circular will also specify the fines and penalties to be imposed on those using the front space without obtaining the permit.

The fees for the permit for shops has been set at Dh50 per month for one-door shops, Dh100 per month for two-door shops, and additional Dh25 per month for each extra door, the source added.

The permit fees for companies and factories has been kept at Dh150 monthly for a shop of an area of 50-100sq/m, Dh200 monthly for 101-200sq/m, Dh300 monthly for 201-300sq/m, and Dh400 monthly for area above 300sq/m.
