Venues for local Quran contest finals announced

DUBAI — The organising committee of the local Quran Memorisation and Recitation Competition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) has announced that the finals of the local competition for male contestants will be held at the Islah Wal Tawjeeh Association and those for the female participants at the Dubai Women’s Development Association.

The announcement came at a meeting of the technical committee under the chairmanship of Dr Aref Al Sheikh and in the presence of its members including Ahmed Al Zahed, media coordinator, and other members of the DIHQA Board. Dr Al Sheikh said that the men’s contest would take place under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, while the women’s contest will be held under the patronage of Shaikha Hind bint Maktoum Al Maktoum, wife of Gen. Shaikh Mohammed.

The participants at the meeting discussed the arrangements for the competition due to take place from next months when the preliminary phases of the contest begin at the level of the memorisation centres, then at the level of the zones until the finals take place in January next year.


The members of the judging panel for the local competition had been selected for the sixth session. The local competition is a branch of DIHQA and is open to all UAE citizens and residents of all ages, except the expatriate men who should not be above 21 years.

Inmates of the Dubai prisons who are enrolled in the Memorisation project for prison inmates are allowed to take part in the local competitio
